Dyslexia and Dyscalculia
Evolve will be launching assessments for dyslexia and dyscalculia in July 2025!
Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty (SpLD) that impacts someone’s ability to read, write, spell and process written information. Dyscalculia is a difficulty with understanding and working with numbers, recognising quantities, learning number facts and performing basic calculations. At Evolve our expert Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) assessors can help you understand your strengths and challenges.

About dyslexia
Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty that primarily affects the development of accurate and fluent reading and spelling skills. It is often associated with difficulties in phonological processing, working memory, and rapid naming. Individuals with dyslexia may also find it harder to decode unfamiliar words, organise written work, and retain verbal instructions. These challenges are not linked to intelligence but reflect differences in how the brain processes language.
We offer dyslexia assessments at Harrogate, Huddersfield, and Exeter.
Signs of dyslexia
Signs of dyslexia may include difficulties with reading fluency, spelling accuracy, and writing organisation. Individuals may struggle to decode unfamiliar words, confuse similar-looking letters, or read slowly and with effort. They might find it hard to remember sequences, follow multi-step instructions, or retrieve specific words. Poor phonological awareness, such as difficulty identifying or manipulating sounds in words, is often evident. In some cases, challenges with working memory, time management, and organisation may also be observed.

About dyscalculia
Dyscalculia is a specific learning difficulty that affects a person’s ability to understand and work with numbers. It may involve difficulties recognising quantities, comparing numerical values, and understanding number relationships. Individuals with dyscalculia often struggle with basic arithmetic, recalling number facts, and estimating. They may also find it hard to use place value correctly, tell the time, or follow sequential steps in mathematical tasks. These challenges are not due to lack of effort or general ability but reflect differences in how the brain processes numerical information.
We offer dyscalculia assessments at Harrogate, Huddersfield, and Exeter.
Signs of dyscalculia
Signs of dyscalculia may include difficulty understanding number concepts, such as which numbers are larger or smaller, or how numbers relate to one another. A person may struggle to learn and recall basic number facts, like times tables or simple addition. They might find it hard to estimate quantities, count backwards, or use place value correctly. Telling the time, handling money, and following steps in multi-stage calculations can also be challenging. These difficulties often persist despite regular teaching and are not explained by general learning ability.
Our services are launching at the end of July.
