I am nurse by background and have worked across sectors ranging from academia to community health care teams over the last 18 years with the ultimate aim of supporting neurodivergent individuals. I strongly believe in and try to use a ‘neuroaffirmative’ approach within everything I do, which involves pointing out and focusing on the many strengths of the individuals that I come across at the same time as trying to assist them to overcome any difficulties. It has been a real privilege to be able to be part of neurodevelopmental assessments in recent times and to witness the positive impact that a diagnosis can have on the wellbeing of children and young people and their families.
