What intellectual disability is
Intellectual Disability (ID) is a term used to describe a condition where an individual experiences significant limitations in both intellectual functioning (such as reasoning, learning, and problem-solving) and adaptive behaviour, which covers a range of everyday social and practical skills. These limitations often appear during the developmental period, typically before the age of 18. Individuals with ID may experience difficulties in learning, communication, and social interaction, which can affect their ability to lead independent lives. Support and intervention can help individuals with ID maximize their potential and improve their quality of life.
